Matia
Matia was an Egyptian street urchin who lived in the House of Nef in Memphis during the 1st century BCE. He was one of the children Nef had taken under his wing, and as such, a 'sibling' to Iphri and Kawit.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In 48 BCE, Matia was one of the children captured by bandits employed by Gaia Afrania, a Roman woman who intended to sell the children to her dealer in Alexandria. This attempt was discovered by Kawit, who decided to set fire to the shipyard that Matia and the children were held in. While some of the children were able to escape, Both Matia and Kawit were captured, and were later held captive in a cage below Gaia's villa.[1]
Fortunately, they were both found by the Medjay Bayek of Siwa, who was helping Iphri to locate them. Bayek freed both Matia and Kawit from the cage, and subsequently, Matia returned home with Iphri on Kawit's orders.[1]
In retaliation for both Bayek and Kawit's actions, Gaia had Nef murdered, leaving his body in the house where Matia and the children mourned his death.[2]
