Ameen (died 861) was a street thief who was part of Dervis' network in Anbar during the 9th century. He was one of the older thieves alongside Basim Ibn Ishaq.

Biography

In 861, Ameen injured his knee while performing an errand for Dervis, and was told by Basim to wrap it and rest for a few days. When Basim came to report to Dervis for a new assignment for the Hidden Ones, Ameen met him outside the house, reporting about the status of his knee. When he asked Basim about his familiarity with injuries, Basim replied about learning to prevent them and encouraged him to learn as well. When Basim asked about replacing his worn sandals, Ameen cheekily talked about stealing them from mosques. Basim laughed it off, stating that the matter would be between Ameen and Allah. Ameen later talked to the boy Fehmi, who told him about the caliph and his guards parading into the Winter Palace with heavily-armed guards.

Later that night, Basim attempted to sneak into the palace to recover the contents of a chest, hoping the Hidden Ones would notice his act and accept him. However, he murdered caliph Al-Mutawakkil in self-defense, which led the caliph's son Abu 'Abdallah to send guards after him. Basim's actions implicated Ameen and the rest of Dervis' network. As retribution, Ameen and the people living in Dervis' quarters were executed, with their bodies hanged on wooden poles for display. The next morning, Basim arrived too late and regretfully discovered the bodies of Ameen and the deceased.
