Abdul Ortega (died 1937) was a Spanish soldier who fought on the side of the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1937, Abdul became a companion of the Spanish Assassin Ignacio Cardona, joining him and his cell in their battles. After the Bombing of Guernica in late April, Abdul and the Spanish Assassins travelled to Barcelona.[1]

One night during a bonfire, Abdul questioned Ignacio about their group's Assassin identity and their own war, expressing skepticism about their presence's agenda in Spain. However, Ignacio refuted this, stating that he was a Spaniard first before being an Assassin and would stand up against anyone who would oppress his people.[1]

Just as Abdul proclaimed that Spanish workers would never have the option of abandoning the fight against the Nationalists, some young Republicans hiding in nearby bushes shot and killed him, having mistaken the group for Nationalists.[1]
