Kaori Kagami
Kaori Kagami is a Japanese doctor working for the Abstergo clinic in Yokohama and a member of the Templar Order.

Work in Madrid[edit | edit source]
In 2016, Dr. Kagami worked at the Abstergo Foundation Rehabilitation Center in Madrid, Spain, and was tasked to analyze the genetic memories of Lin, a descendant of Shao Jun, in search of the Assassin's Precursor box.[1] Kagami was unable to finish exploring Shao Jun's memories before the facility was overrun by the Assassin prisoners who attempted to escape. During the attack, Kagami cowered under a desk as the catalyst of the breakout, Callum Lynch, fired an arrow overhead.[2]
Although Dr. Kagami ultimately survived the attack, Lin was among the Assassin prisoners that managed to escape the facility and so the doctor lost her only lead on Shao Jun's box. Falling into depression and anxiety, Kagami developed an alcohol addiction as a result of the riot, affecting her work.[3]
Eventually, Dr. Kagami was called to a meeting with Ellen Kaye, who reprimanded and demoted her. Kagami was then sent back to Japan to work at another Abstergo facility in Yokohama and continue the search for Shao Jun's box.[3]
Treating Kō Risa[edit | edit source]
In 2019, Dr. Kagami managed to locate another descendant of Shao Jun, a teenager named Kō Risa. When Risa began attending therapy at the Abstergo clinic in Yokohama in the hopes of learning to control her violent impulses, Kagami convinced her to relive Shao Jun's memories in the Animus as part of her treatment.[4]
After a rocky first Animus session, Dr. Kagami calmed the shaken girl, assuring her that it was only a simulation and nothing could harm her there. Ending the session, the two women talked in the doctor's office, with Risa unconvinced about the treatment, while Dr. Kagami read about her violent tendencies. Kagami then implored Risa to work with her, and after the session, Risa left. Kagami then spoke on the phone with a fellow Templar, discussing her true goal of finding the location of Shao Jun's "treasure".[4]
In their second session, Dr. Kagami tended to Risa as she desynchronized after reliving a traumatic memory. Kagami insisted that her patient rest, but the girl wanted to continue her treatment. After Risa ended another Animus session, she asked about the Assassins and the Templars, and Kagami explained the conflict between the two organizations, claiming that the Assassins fought for chaos while the Templars sought to preserve peace and order. She then explained that Risa's violent behavior was caused by her Assassin ancestry.[5]
After Risa returned to the Animus, an Abstergo employee entered the room to warn Dr. Kagami about overexposing the girl to the machine. Kagami simply snapped at the man that she was doing what she had to in order to get results.[5] When Risa was affected by the guilt felt by Shao Jun over reliving the 1526 Macau fires, Kagami consoled her patient and reminded her that it was all a simulation.[1]
After Risa ended her therapy for the day, Dr. Kagami had a voice call with Ellen Kaye, who reminded her about what had happened at the Madrid facility, warning her not to let it happen again.[1] During the next session, Kagami was asked by Risa about the hallucinations she had been having, but the doctor brushed them off as a temporary side effect of using the Animus.[2]
While Risa was in the Animus, Dr. Kagami instructed her assistant to record all of their information as she did not want to replicate the mishap in Madrid. After Risa awoke from the simulation, Kagami noticed her patient was more cautious about the Animus' effects and began to wonder if her subject was retaining any of Shao Jun's abilities.[2] Following another session, in which Risa relived Shao Jun's memory of her Mentor Wang Yangming's funeral, Kagami noted her patient being distraught before she left the facility.[6]
Defeated by the Assassins[edit | edit source]
When Risa returned for her next session,[7] Dr. Kagami watched over her, unaware of Risa's change in perception of the doctor. After the session, Risa confronted Kagami over her knowledge of the Animus' dangerous side effects and asked that they end her treatment for the day. However, Kagami, believing she was close to finally learning the fate of Shao Jun's Precursor box, refused to allow Risa to leave and pulled a pistol on her.[8]
Dr. Kagami signaled guards to come in and they forced Risa back into the Animus.[9] While Risa was in the machine, the doctor told her assistant to dispose of the girl once they found the Precursor box. However, Shao Jun's memories showed that the box was out of her grasp, causing Kagami to yell out in frustration over her entire work being a dead end.[3]
As Risa awoke from the Animus and confronted Dr. Kagami over using her for her own ends, the doctor patronized her patient over her self-doubt. Moments later, both women heard a commotion as the Japanese Assassin Kiyoshi Takakura and Risa's cousin Mari broke into the building to save Risa.[10]
The teenager used this distraction to disarm Dr. Kagami and take down the guards in the room. Now held at gunpoint herself, the doctor listened to Risa as she thanked her for her new outlook on life before shooting and destroying her Animus. As Kiyoshi and the girls left the facility, Kagami was left in shambles over her failure to listen to Ellen Kaye's advice.[10]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Dr. Kagami's overarching goal to find Shao Jun's Precursor box is seemingly non-sensical, as that artifact is implied by Assassin's Creed Chronicles to have already been recovered by Abstergo and later destroyed in 2018, during the events of Assassin's Creed: Uprising.
