Rolf, also known as Rolf the Raider, was a Norwegian Viking who lived during the 9th century. Prior to the 870s, Rolf served under King Styrbjorn of the Raven Clan.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Originally serving under King Styrbjorn, Rolf participated in a raid on the northern coast of Norway alongside Styrbjorn's children Sigurd and Eivor. He also fathered a son named Thorgils and trained him in hopes he would be a possible candidate alongside Ashild and Audbjorn to take over leadership of the crew one day.[1]

By the 870s, Rolf and his crew of Vikings took residence in Stavanger, where they made preparations to depart from Norway before King Harald assumed control of the region from Styrbjorn. In 873, Rolf met Eivor once again during her visit to the port city. After catching up, Rolf brought Eivor to the harbor where his crew were having a friendly fist-fight, requesting her aid in selecting a possible candidate out of Ashild, Audbjorn and Thorgils to lead his crew. After Eivor had defeated all three members, Rolf stepped in, thanking and giving her some silver for the trouble.[1]
