Ashild, also known as Ashild the Keen, was a Norse warrior in Norway during the 9th century.
Biography[edit | edit source]
When the Viking Rolf stayed in Stavanger with his crew to prepare to leave Norway after jarl Styrbjorn Sigvaldisson of the Raven Clan ceded control of his land to King Harald Fairhair,[1] Styrbjorn's daughter, the shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir, met with Rolf and his crew as they were having a friendly fistfight to see who should one day lead the crew. Eivor joined the fistfight to test the raiders. At the start of the match, Ashild hit Thorgils on the head and knocked him out, though she was subsequently defeated by Eivor.[2]
