Yanmei
Yanmei (c. 1970s – 2016) was a member of an Assassin cell operating in China.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Early life[edit | edit source]
Not much is known about Yanmei's early life; however, the Templar Isaiah suggested that her biological father was not a good person.[2]
Mission to Mongolia[edit | edit source]
In October 2016,[3][4] Gavin Banks ordered Yanmei to assist another Assassin, Griffin, who was preparing to travel to China to retrieve the Fear Prong of the Trident of Eden from Möngke Khan's tomb. Yanmei provided a jet to Griffin and the teenagers Natalya Aliyev, David Collins, and Javier Mondragón on their way to the tomb, but the jet was shot down by the Templars.[5]
Surviving the crash, the Assassins confirmed the location of the Abstergo camp. As they made their way to the tomb on foot, David went towards the Abstergo camp, believing a series of lights were signalling him that his sister Grace was there. However, this was a trap and David ended up captured by the Templars.[6]
Upon reaching the spot where another of the teenagers, Natalya Aliyev, had desynchronized, she still refused to give up the location of the tomb, refusing to trust the Assassins because of their absolute obedience to their Creed. After Yanmei explained the true meaning of the Creed, Natalya agreed to lead the group to the tomb, only to later knock out Yanmei and Griffin with sleep darts, believing they would use the Trident of Edent for their own ambitions like the Templars.[7]
Soon afterwards, Isaiah arrived; the Assassins regained consciousness and attacked the Templar while the teenagers escaped. Before long, Isaiah emerged from the tomb with the Fear Prong and used its power against everyone. Yanmei experienced a vision of her father and the things he had done to her before trying to attack Isaiah. However, the Templar thrust the Prong into her body, ending Yanmei's life before she could strike.[8]
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Yanmei's death affected Natalya, causing Owen Meyers to grow slightly concerned for her. She even considered leaving the Assassin-Templar War behind when Victoria Bibeau presented her with the opportunity. However, she remained determined to help both the Assassins and Templars rescue Sean Molloy from Isaiah.[8]
Roughly twelve days after Yanmei's death, Natalya, Owen, and Grace located the last Prong of the Trident and made their way to the getaway car, where they were confronted by Isaiah. Attempting to instill fear in the teenagers, Isaiah told Natalya that, through the Prong, he could see the horrific things Yanmei's father had done to her before killing her, which made her cry.[2]
Personality and traits[edit | edit source]
Yanmei was a loyal follower of the Assassin Brotherhood, known for her calm and collected demeanor. She showed a strong capacity for empathy and understanding towards those she worked with, as demonstrated during her cooperation with Natalya Aliyev, when she sought to understand how a group of teenagers had become involved in the ancient clandestine war between the Assassins and the Templars.[5] Despite her composed nature, Yanmei was shown to act recklessly when confronted with her traumatic past. During an encounter with Isaiah, who used the Prong of Eden to subdue her and the others, she charged at him in a frenzy, only to end up killed.[7]
Following her death, Natalya blamed herself, but Griffin reminded her that Yanmei would not have wanted that and would have understood her actions—further highlighting Yanmei's empathy and emotional insight.[8]
Skills and equipment[edit | edit source]
Yanmei was customarily armed with a Hidden Blade and was a trained combatant, capable of engaging multiple Templar agents simultaneously.[7]
