Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe
Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe, also referred to as Assassin's Creed: Neo,[1] is the working title for an upcoming installment in the Assassin's Creed series, being a part of the Animus Hub platform. The game is expected to be one of the darkest series entries yet, set during the witch trials in the Holy Roman Empire, and will be helmed by Ubisoft Montreal.[2]
Gameplay
In September 2022, the series' Vice President and Executive Producer Marc-Alexis Côté revealed to IGN that Codename Hexe would be something entirely different from the Action-RPG for Ubisoft's other expected title, Assassin's Creed: Shadows.[3]
Development
The game's conceptual title was first leaked on 6 September 2022 and reported by Bloomberg, who also noted that this game would likely not release until 2024 at the earliest.[2] It was later confirmed at the Ubisoft Forward livestream during its Assassin's Creed showcase, alongside a short teaser.[4]
Release
Marketing
On 10 September 2022, a short teaser was released showing an Assassin insignia made of sticks surrounded by script from the 17th century occult alphabet of the Magi. The fan site Access the Animus translated the text and learned it comprised of two parts. The outer circle around the insignia was the Creed's maxim written clockwise in Old German, "Wir arbeiten im dem tunckel um dem licht zu dienen", or in English, "We work in the dark to serve the light". Meanwhile, the text around the pentagram, in the pentagram tips, and within the central pentagon itself were also written clockwise in a spiral pattern and read "Mephisto rache husa", which loosely translates to "Mephisto avenge this house".[5]
