Charles II and his army at Worcester

Worcester is a city in England.

History

In 1651, during the English Civil War, the royalist forces of Charles II battled the parliamentarian troops of Oliver Cromwell at Worcester. Though the King's forces fought bravely, Cromwell's troops proved too numerous and they were forced to retreat into the city. The Earl of Cleveland led a desperate cavalry in order to distract attention from the king and Charles II escaped through St. Martin's Gate.[1]
