Basel.

Switzerland is a country in Europe.

History

Bombastus

Around 1520, the Swiss scholar Bombastus had his laboratory located in Basel, where he worked alongside his assistant Maria Amiel. The laboratory was also the place where Bombastus held the first half of the Book and where he created the Philosopher's Stone.[1]

Giovanni Borgia also visited the laboratory to deliver a Crystal Skull for Bombastus to examine, as he was working with the Assassins at that time.[1]

Later on, when Giovanni and Maria returned from Paris, Bombastus had become mentally unstable and eventually disappeared.[2]

Mathers

Switzerland was the birthplace of Moina Mathers, however, she did not stay long in the country as her family moved across Europe often, and she eventually settled down in London.[3]

Assassin hideout

The Brotherhood had maintained a base of operations in Switzerland – an isolated cabin in the Swiss Alps – for 200 years.

During World War II, Assassins working from this area trained, supplied and led Maquis cells during the latter's conflict with the Germans.

In September 2012, Lucy Stillman intended to use the Alpine cabin as a new hideout for her team, which had recently fled their compromised base in Rome. She believed it would be one of the few nearby places in Europe where they could set up the Animus 2.0 without suspicion. However, this plan would not come to fruition, as the Templars had set up a roadblock, preventing Lucy's team from reaching the cabin and forcing them to take a detour to Monteriggioni.[4]
