Moira is a Anglo-Saxon woman and the herbalist and healer of the jarl-turned-king, Halfdan Ragnarsson, during the 9th century in Eurvicscire, Northumbria. She helped to treat Halfdan, who experienced illness, in terms of both his emotional health and his physical health.

Biography

Living in Eurvicscire, Moira seemingly followed the tenets of Christianity along with her mother. Moira saw her mother soon die, after failing to understand what was the cause of her death. After some time, Moira came to work and treat Halfdan, after her works in herbs seemed to have soothe the pain Halfdan was experiencing, but not cure it.[1]

Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir first met the healer at a celebration in Donecaestre that was held for the latest victory against the Picts.[2] Eivor heard Moira consoling a man, whose wife was experiencing medical issues. Eivor and Moira spoke briefly about her role with Halfdan, as Moira had to attend to other business.

After fighting the Picts alongside Faravid and Ulf, Eivor returned to Donecaestre to talk with Halfdan again.[3] Upon arrival, Eivor spotted Moira giving a herbal drink to Halfdan, who requested that was all for now, and Moira left. After a heated discussion about being poisoned by someone, Halfdan told Eivor to still keep an eye on Faravid but Eivor interjected that Moira could be a possibility for poison as well. Agreeing with her, Halfdan told Eivor to seek out Moira in town.[1] Upon investigating Moira's hut, Eivor learned that Moira went to Wyke to treat a man's wife, from the earlier conversation at the celebration. Going to Wyke, Eivor stumbled across a mob of people outside Moira's home. Eivor broke her way into the roof of the house and discovered Moira trapped. Devising of a plan, Eivor helped Moira by getting rid of the mob and having Moira safely out of harm's way. Afterwards, Moira and Eivor talked about Halfdan's health and that the remedies Moira gave are just treating the wound but not curing what Halfdan has.

After meeting back with Halfdan and searching for the killers of his soldier, Olav, Eivor spoke with Halfdan at Petuaria Ruins. Eivor stated that Moira had seen the ailment that struck Halfdan as a mental and incurable one. However, Halfdan rejected such a notion, despite a moment of worry. After finding and killing Ulf for his role in Olav's death, Halfdan pushed Eivor to investigate Faravid further. After some time, Eivor, Faravid, and Ljufvina readied for war against the Picts, as Halfdan later joined in, reluctantly. However, the Vikings won the fight and Eivor saw and killed the unexpected traitor, King Ricsige.[4]

After the fight, a celebration took place in Jorvik as Halfdan was to receive his coronation as king of Northumbria. As Eivor looked for Halfdan, Moira stated that he and Faravid were talking together outside. As Eivor came and reminded them of the coronation, all attendee, including Ljufvina, Hjorr, Faravid, and Moira, saw Halfdan crowned as king. After Eivor wished Halfdan good fortune, Halfdan began coughing horribly as he dropped his goblet. Inspecting the goblet, Eivor showed Moira the goblet and Moira stated that it's made of lead. Eivor remembered that lead drove the Romans mad as Moira recalled that her mother drank from cups like the goblet as well.[5] Accusing Faravid of long-time poisoning, Halfdan saw that Faravid be punished. Eivor stepped in and decided the fate of Faravid, while Halfdan was left bereft from Faravid's apparent betrayal. After gaining an alliance with Halfdan, Eivor left the party and reported back to Randvi in Ravensthorpe.[6]

Eivor travelled back to Jorvik to check on Halfdan, but only found a sadden Moira. Speaking to Eivor, Moira stated that Halfdan has been absent and their king has been lost in depression and paranoia after the events with Faravid. Wondering where Halfdan is, Eivor asked Moira, who stated that Halfdan is in Picheringa with his dog, Beonton. Eivor left and, after a series of events, convinced Halfdan to come back to Jorvik and rule as the King of Northumbria.[7]
