Herat Citadel
The Herat Citadel, also known as the Citadel of Alexander is a large fort located in the center of Herat, Afghanistan. It was supposedly built around 330 BCE, when Alexander the Great arrived in the area, and has been a military stronghold for two millennia.
History
In 1841, the Herat Citidel was visited by the Master Templar William Sleeman, who wanted to access the Precursor Temple underneath the structure. At the same time, the Indian Assassin Arbaaz Mir infiltrated the fortress with the very same purpose, using the battle raging outside its walls as a distraction for the guards.[1]
