The Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy was the group of 7 kingdoms that controlled the land that is now England. The collapse of the Heptarchy began in 829CE when Wessex under King Alfred the Great took control of Essex, Kent, and Sussex.[1]
Trivia
- The kingdoms of East Anglia, Mercia, and Northumbria would eventually merge with Wessex following the Vikings' invasion with the Great Heathen Army marking the creation of a unified England.
- The Norman Invasion of England in 1066 ended all Anglo-Saxon rule in England.
