Harriet is a Anglo-Saxon woman and sister of the Order member, The Seax, during the 9th century in Wincestre, England. She holds a strong position against both the Danes and the Order of the Ancients presences in England.

Biography

Like Ealhferth, Harriet grew up in the north of England and followed the tenets of Christianity along with her family. During the Viking expansion in England, her family was attacked and her mother died from a raid over the mother's copper ring. Compared to Ealhferth, her disdain for Danes grew as well as her brother's, but she remained faithful to God while Ealhferth disavowed the religion, secretly. After some time, Harriet and Ealhferth moved to Wincestre, but Ealhferth was inducted into the Order of the Ancients some time along the way.[1]

Making sure The Seax was really dead, Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir started her investigation by attending the "funeral" of the late bishop. Eivor heard Harriet praying over her brother's "dead body" while she interviewd the attendees. Later, Eivor caught sight of a gravedigger named Wemba. Wemba informed Eivor that soldiers killed his friend Leof and Eivor deduced that they also burned his face, due to awful allure in the air. Eivor also discovered abandoned clothes of a homeless person and investigated "body" of Ealhferth closely. Upon looking at the body, Eivor put all the clues together and saw that the funeral was a sham as the body was of a dead Leof. Eivor confronted Harriet and got her to reveal her part in this funeral and that Ealhferth was, in fact, alive. However, Harriet called guards onto Eivor, who quickly defeated them. Eivor went to Harriet again and the sister revealed that her brother was attending the witan and going to dethrone King Aelfred. Although Harriet believed Ealhferth was going to convince the king to step down, Eivor called her a damned fool and raced to witan.[1]

After assassinating Ealhferth, Eivor was thanked by King Aelfred and Reeve Goodwin. After the king and reeve left, Harriet came running in and fell down in tears. Mad at the shieldmaiden, Harriet asked why Ealhferth had to die but Eivor stated that he was part of the Order and wished to strike down King Aelfred. Showing her a key from Ealhferth, Eivor asked Harriet what this key opened. Harriet stated that Eivor showed her kindness throughout this ordeal while the Order led her brother astray. Harriet told Eivor that the key opened a door at Ealhferth's home and that her answers may be there. Leaving Harriet, Eivor left to investigate the bishop's home, only to find another Temple of Mithras. However, due to her own personal investigation, Eivor believed she found nothing and that Harriet lied. Eivor left the temple and went to speak with Aelfred about her reward.[1]
