Flyting is a spoken-word contest popular among the Norse and Anglo-Saxons, in which the contestants attempt to insult each other while maintaining a specific rhyme and rhythm.
History
In the late 9th-century, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan learned the art of flyting from her clansman Alvis. She would later gain renown in the sport by challenging and besting people across Norway and the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy.[1]
