Al-Ula Valley[1] is a region in what is now Medina Province, Saudi Arabia.[2] It is named for the market city of Al-Ula.
Many different authorities dominated the region during the first millennium BCE, namely the Kingdom of Dadan, followed by the Kingdom of Lihyan around 500 or 400 BCE and later the Nabataean Kingdom, who established their regional authority at Hegra.[3] The region was considered a mandatory stop along the land routes of the Incense Road, due to its geographic position, availability of water and food produced at the local oasis.[1][4]
