9th century Wyke

Wyke is a village in West Yorkshire.

History

In 876, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan traveled to the Anglo-Saxon village of Wyke once she discovered that Halfdan Ragnarsson's healer Moira was attending another man's pleas. While looking for Moira, Eivor caught sight of an angry mob outside Moira's own house who were chanting for her to be burnt alive for helping Halfdan. Moira barricaded herself inside as she frightenedly screamed at the mob to go away.[1]

Looking for a way inside, Eivor broke into the house solely and talked with Moira. Moira pleaded Eivor to help deal with the mob or else she would die. From her own deduction, Eivor handled the mob in her own way, which caused the mob to disperse quickly. Eivor escorted Moira out of her home and talked with her about her treatment on Halfdan. Moira divulged that Halfdan may be with mental illness, not poison, as her treatments were meant to alleviate rather than cure his pain. From their conversation, Eivor left Moira as she asked Eivor to tread lightly with Halfdan about the subject.[1]
