The Thuggee was a society of Indian assassins that fell into decline in the early half of the 19th century.[1]
Suspecting the Thugs of having ties to the Assassins, British Major-General and Master Templar Sir William Sleeman moved to suppress the group and led an eradication campaign against them from 1835 to 1839, but ultimately was unable to find a connection between the two groups.[2]
