A server bridge is a side simulation that allows the user to pass from one Helix server to another, with its entrance and exit taking the form of energy portals. They were widely used by the Assassins as a way to escape detection during Abstergo Industries' server sweeps, allowing them to extract information from the genetic memories in their company servers.[1]
This mechanism was not without risk, however, as users could end up trapped in the system and require rescuing by others due to the instability caused by incomplete and corrupted code. Bridges also contained a few anachronisms in their simulations, due to other time periods bleeding through, as was the case with a 1898 simulation of Paris including the Statue of Liberty, which had already been sent to the United States by that point in time.[1]
Despite the Assassins' secrecy, Abstergo was aware of this particular weakness in their technology and, in a press training memo for the 2014 Virtual Entertainment eXposition, employees were reminded to not mention server bridges at any point.[2]
History
Arno Dorian simulation
In 2014, an Initiate was tasked by Bishop with parsing through the memories of the French Assassin Arno Dorian.[3] Due to Abstergo being on high alert following an incursion led by Shaun Hastings that ended with the theft of genetic data, destruction of Isu DNA samples, and the melting of servers, the Initiate had to make use of three server bridges to avoid detection by the Templars.[4]
After reliving Arno's assassination of Charles Gabriel Sivert,[5] Shaun opened a server bridge through Belle Époque Paris in 1898, which the Initiate managed to escape through without any issues, leading Bishop to remark that not everyone was as fortunate during their first experience with the bridges. She also requested help in rescuing another Initiate trapped in that bridge.[1]

After reliving the final confrontation between Arno and Pierre Bellec,[6] another sweep threatened to locate the Initiate, so Bishop had Shaun create another bridge. This time, the bridge was set in 1944 during the occupation of Paris by the Nazi Party, and the exit portal was located atop the Eiffel Tower. The Initiate had to evade gunfire and shoot down several planes before being able to reach the next server.[4]
After reliving Arno's assassination of Aloys la Touche,[7] the Initiate was forced into their third server bridge, this time set in late 14th century. The bridge included a set of catacombs and a quarry, with the exit portal being located near the besieged fortress of the Bastille. Once again, they were able to escape detection by Abstergo and continued investigating Arno's memories.[8]
Frye simulation
In 2015, an anomaly in the Helix servers similar to a server bridge was encountered by the same Initiate while exploring the memories of the twin British Assassins Jacob and Evie Frye. However, this anomaly was created by Juno, whose digitalized consciousness inhabited the servers, and led to a simulation based on the memories of Lydia Frye in 1916 London, during World War I.[9]
