The Fortified Ruins was a large Frankish settlement build along the River Rhine in the northwestern part of the region, southwest of the Rhine Fortification. These old Roman ruins were re-used to serve as a fortification by a significant military force. The city featured what remained of a bathhouse, a large tower, and parts of a still-working aqueduct. In the 9th century, the Viking Vagn guided Eivor Varinsdottir and the crew of her longship Sea-Chariot to the location in order to raid it multiple times.[1]
