Ferrières was a large Frankish town build along the River Rhine in the eastern part of the region, just on the other side of the river from Wulfram Settlement. It featured a large number of houses and a church and was guarded by a significant military force. The old stone bridge between both locations at one point collapsed, separating the two cities.
In the 9th century, the Viking Vagn guided Eivor Varinsdottir and the crew of her longship Sea-Chariot to the location in order to raid it multiple times. During Eivor's first raid, she killed the Frankish champion residing here and claimed the Ulfberht Sword for herself.[1] She later returned to defeat a mercenary hired by Ferrières' citizens to act as a new champion, and claimed Sir Gareth's Holy Sword.[2]
