A tapestry depicting Conan II handing the city's keys to William

Conan II, Duke of Brittany (c. 1033 – 1066) was Duke of Brittany from 1040 to his death.[1]

Biography

From 1064 to 1066, Conan II fought against William the Conqueror, then Duke of Normandy, during the Breton-Norman war.[2] In the last year of the conflict when the odds were highly in William's favor, Conan handed over the keys to his city to William as a surrender.[3]
