Bragi was a Viking who served as a skald to members of the Raven Clan who had followed Eivor Varinsdottir to England.

He was known among his clanmates for telling ship stories, a fact for which they mocked him, saying he had too vivid an imagination for the tales to be real.[1]

Biography

One of the more senior members of the clan, Bragi was present at the feast in the village of Heillboer in 855 whereby Eivor's parents Varin and Rosta pledged their service to King Styrbjorn. He also participated in the defense of the village after Kjotve the Cruel led a raid that saw the deaths of Eivor's parents. Bragi survived the encounter and went on to become one of Eivor's companions following her adoption by Styrbjorn.[2]

In 872, Bragi was one of those who accompanied Eivor during her pursue of Kjotve on the island of Karmøy. A failed attempt led to the crew's capture, with Bragi and the rest of the crew held captive in Avaldsnes, while Eivor was prepared to be sold off to slavery in Ireland. Eivor, however, managed to free herself and travelled to Avaldsnes, where she caught sight of Bragi being interrogated by Kjotve's lieutenant Rikiwulf. After being freed following Rikiwulf's death by Eivor, Bragi and the rest of the crew fought their way to the shores to their longship, and embarked on a return journey back to Fornburg.[3]

Behind the scenes

Bragi, a character in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, shares his name with the Norse god of skaldic poetry, Bragi. He is voiced by Einar Selvik, who sung and composed Bragi's tunes and stories.
