Louis II (825 – 875) was the King of Italy and Holy Roman Emperor from 844 until his death, co-ruling with his father Lothair I at first until 855. He was also, like his great-grandfather Charlemagne, a leader of the Order of the Ancients.
At some point prior to 873, Louis requested Fulke, a member of the Order, to decipher Isu text, transcribed by a young Palatinus during Charlemagne's leadership.[1]
