Benedicto (d. 1492) was the Mentor of the Spanish Brotherhood of Assassins around the time of the Granada War.
Biography
During the Granada War, Benedicto took steps to protect the young son of his ally, Sultan Muhammad XII of Granada, having the boy hidden in a village by another friend of the Brotherhood, Diego.[1]
After his Assassin parents were burned at the stake by the Inquisition and its Templar leader, Tomás de Torquemada, Benedicto also took Aguilar de Nerha under his wing, training the younger man, teaching him the Creed and presiding over his formal induction into the Brotherhood in 1492.[2]
That same year, Benedicto and his Assassins failed to prevent the capture of the young Prince Ahmed of Granada by the Templars, who wanted to use him as a bargaining chip to obtain the Apple of Eden entrusted to his father by the Assassins. Captured alongside two of his disciples, Aguilar and Maria, Benedicto was eventually brought to Seville, where he was branded a heretic by Inquisitor Tomás de Torquemada before being burned at the stake.[2]
