Chen Lun (died 1259) was a young Tangghut man from the valley of the Black River.[1] He was conscripted into the army for the Mongol Empire and its Great Khan, Möngke, during the 13th century. He was young and inexperienced, and displayed cowardice at the Siege of Diaoyu Castle. The Buryat warrior Bayan even instructed Chen Lun's captain to pay the Tangghut special heed.[2]

However, plagued by diseases and faced with the strong resistance of the Songs, the Mongols were unsuccessful in their attempts to break the fortress defenses.[2]
After the failed assault on the Xin Dong Gates, Wang Dechen called upon any able-bodied Mongol to join him in a second beleaguer at the Hu Guo Gates under the cover of darkness.
