Charles II and his army at Worcester

Worcester is a city in England.

History[edit | edit source]

In 1651, during the English Civil War, the royalist forces of Charles II battled the parliamentarian troops of Oliver Cromwell at Worcester. Though the King's army fought bravely, Cromwell's troops proved too numerous, and they were forced to retreat into the city. The Earl of Cleveland led a desperate cavalry charge against the enemy to divert attention away from the king, allowing Charles II to escape through St. Martin's Gate.[1]
