A shieldmaiden is a female warrior from Scandinavian mythology.
During the Viking expansion, a number of shieldmaidens fought within the Great Heathen Army, such as Eivor Varinsdottir, Soma, Valdis, and Halfdan Ragnarsson's mother Aslaug.[1]
