Sais (Ancient Greek: Σάϊς) was an ancient Egyptian town located west of Lake Mareotis in the Sapi-Res Nome. During the 1st century BCE, the town was governed by Sefetu, who allied himself with Taharqa, a member of the Order of the Ancients known as the Scarab.[1] Under Sefetu's rule, the townsfolk faced heavy taxation, and enforced curfew, causing unease among the population. This unease caused even notable members, like the harbormaster, to act against Sefetu.[2]
In 48 BCE, Apollodorus sent the Medjay Bayek of Siwa to the village to look for one of his informants, Harkhuf, who had information regarding the Scarab.[3]
It was said that the town was under the protection of Neith, the Egyptian goddess of hunting and war.[4]
