Runes are a collection of early letters commonly used among a number of Germanic languages before being largely replaced by the Latin alphabet.
History
Runes were the favored writing system among the Vikings, and they used them to record things as well as for decoration. Inscribing a rune upon a weapon was believed to enhance its abilities.[1] Sometimes Vikings also tattooed runes upon themselves, as was the case with Valdis.[1]
Behind the scenes
A set of runes is part of the parcel upon the purchase of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla Ultimate Edition.[2]
