Rued

Rued (? - 873) was a Viking leader who based himself at the Burgh Castle in the Kingdom of East Anglia during the 9th century.

At some point in the late 9th century, Rued captured King Oswald of East Anglia and had him imprisoned at his fort. The Viking Eivor led their clan to assault the castle and defeat Rued, freeing King Oswald.[1]

Etymology

Rued is a name derived from the Old Norse word hróðr, meaning 'fame, famed'.[2]
