The Red Hand was a criminal organization active in 9th century Northumbria. It was lead by members of the Order of the Ancients whose goal was to destabilize Jorvik and replace King Ricsige with one of their own.

History

During the 870s, the Red Hand was being led by Order of the Ancients members known only by the cryptonyms of the Firebrand, the Needle, and the Vault. The Firebrand censured and burned texts they deemed dangerous,[1] the Needle funded the organization by seizing goods as they passed through Jorvick's ports,[2] and the Vault oversaw the operations and planned to poison the nobility and members of Jorvik's council including the king during a Yule festival.[3] Despite their efforts seeking to control the region, their plans were thwarted by the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir, who came to hunt them at the request of her Hidden One ally Hytham.[4]
