Ferdinand Magellan met Rajah Humabon at Cebu

Rajah Humabon was a King of Cebu who ruled during the 16th century.

Biography

In 1521, Humabon met the Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan who, who was leading an expedition to seemingly discover gold and spices. Magellan convinced Humabon to convert to Catholicism and to turn Cebu into a colony of the Spanish Empire. In reality, the expedition was a façade for Magellan's attempt to locate a treasure left behind by the Isu. Although he succeed in finding the artifact, Humabon revealed to Magellan that it was only a fragment of a larger artifact. Magellan used this information from Humabon to lead an army to the nearby Mactan Island to claim the artifact from Lapu-Lapu, though this resulted in the Spanish forces being defeated and Magellan's death.[1]
