Leon Trotsky (7 November 1879 – 21 August 1940), born Lev Davidovich Bronstein, was a Marxist revolutionary and theorist, a Soviet politician, and the founder of the Red Army. Trotsky's ideas formed the basis of Trotskyism, a major school of Marxism.
Biography
Prior to become a revolutionary, Trotsky spent time in the prison in 1898 for propagating revolutionary ideas and pamphlets during the Romanov dynasty.[1]
He soon joined the Bolsheviks before the start of the Russian Revolution and quickly became one of their leaders in the first Politburo founded in 1917, along with Vladimir Lenin and Joseph Stalin.[1]
During this time, he became a friend of the Russian Assassin Nikolai Orelov and was aware of the war between the Templars and the Assassins but was not part of either order.[2] He also became the first leader of the Red Army after receiving the title of 'People's Commissar of Army and Navy Affairs.'[1]
In September 1918, during the Kazan Operation, when Nikolai asked Leon to help him smuggle Anastasia Nikolaevna to Moscow, Trotsky sold his friend to the Templars for the sake of the Russian Revolution|Revolution, deeming the surviving princess to be too dangerous as a symbol to be left alive.[2]
