Jane Bolster was a English girl who lived with her family on their estate in southern Ireland. She was the daugther of Brandon Bolster and sister to Richard. She also had another sister.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In 1822, a group of about fifty men attacked the Bolster Estate during the night, after her father decided to use their farm lands to feed cattle and increase his income, depriving the farmers of the means to feed their families. Despite the pleas of Richard, who agreed with them, Brandon stubbornly refused to negotiate with the farmers due to rising tensions between the landlords and their tenants in Ireland, with the tenants having begun organizing themselves in secret societies such as the Whiteboys.[1]
