Halewyn was a druid mystic that lived in Druid's Cottage in 9th century southeastern Glowecestrescire, England.

Biography

Not much is known about Halewyn, except that he followed the ways and lifestyle of a druid and that he lived as a recluse, when compared to the townspeople of Glowecestre.[1]

At the Druid's Cottage, Halewyn answered his door, as the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan, disguised as the Mari Lwyd, knocked. Halewyn saw Eivor's presence as a sign and a human form of a light spirit. However, Halewyn noticed none of his wicker men were set ablaze and asked the spirit to light them on fire. After Eivor set the wicker men on fire and investigated Halewyn's house, Halewyn tested her even further. Halewyn asked for the answers of a set of three riddles about certain charms. From Eivor's search, Halewyn's questions were answered all correctly. Halewyn was asked by Eivor about the pouch and anything about its owner. Halewyn remembered that the contents were to aid one's need for sleep and that the man lived in an area called Cudd Lladron.[1]

When the burning of the Samhain wicker man commenced, Halewyn was present for the ceremony and the burning itself.[2]
