Feiyan Cave is a cave that held a secret path, created by the Song soldiers, to spy against the Mongolian army during their siege.
History
On 10 August 1259, Assassin apprentice Zhang Zhi disobeyed her mentor Kang's orders and traversed through the cave to infiltrate the Mongolian camp and assassinate their leader Möngke Khan. However, when she exited towards the camp,[1] Mongolian commander Bayan noticed and followed her, but fell short to her speed. Looking for the cave, he failed to find its entrance and waited for the female intruder. Upon her return to the cave, Bayan attacked Zhi with an arrow to the knee.[2]
Although injured, Zhi managed to poison and stab Bayan, who kicked the arrow further into her knee as retaliation.
