In 2013, Dean was involved in an email chain led by Abstergo's Chief Creative Officer Olivier Garneau regarding potential time periods for exploitation via Animus products. Dean believed that their paying customers didn't care for playing games that didn't involve conflict, and suggested a number of potential historical periods such as Jack the Ripper's Whitechapel murders, the French Revolution, the American "Wild West", and the rise of Genghis Khan's empire.[1]
