An eunuch is a man who has undergone castration. Eunuchs would usually be servants or slaves who had been castrated to make them reliable servants of a royal court.[1]
Notable eunuchs
During the reign of Pharaoh Ptolemy XII Auletes in Egypt, the eunuch Pothinus served as one of his advisors alongside Achillas, Ganymedes, and Theodotus of Chios. As Pothinus secretly was a member of the Order of the Ancients, after Auletes' death in 51 BCE, he manipulated Ptolemy XIII into exiling his sister and co-ruler Cleopatra to claim the title of Egypt's regent.[2]
