Eluric (born c. 856 CE[1]) was a Anglo-Saxon, who lived in Maeldun, Essexe, in the 9th century. An inhabitant of Maeldun, Eluric believed himself to be the brother of the woman Alfida, until he found out that Alfida was actually his mother.
Biography
Early life
As a child, Eluric grew up in Maeldun and raised solely by Alfida, who lied to him about his true parentage. As he grew up, Eluric was seen as strong-hearted but somewhat soft as well. For his whole life, Eluric lived with Alfida, and she cared for him without any outside help.[1]
A shocking revelation

In 875, Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan found a weeping Eluric in the shed nearby his home. After he begged the Viking not to hurt or kill him, he introduced himself to Eivor and stated that Alfred's men had taken Alfida for interfering with a matter and caged her at the Brentwood Outpost.[1]
Doubtful, Eluric wished Eivor the best in saving his sister before he made his way to the Lake House, per Eivor's instructions. There, Eluric waited for them and was soon delighted upon seeing the pair had escaped and survived Alfred's soldiers. Afterwards, once the Ealdorman Birstan arrived, Eluric gave both Alfida and Birstan privacy.[1]

At the Ealdorman's house, a party was held for Birstan and Alfida. However, the greeting was cut short when Eluric walked in and insulted Alfida's choice in relationship, angrily stating that it was a farce contingent on Birstan's love and commitment to her. Eluric also doubted Birstan's worth and almost insulted Alfida, only for Alfida to retort that Eluric was a bastard "whelp" whom Birstan had fathered. Angered further at the revelation of his parentage, Eluric vowed to never forgive Alfida and stormed off, leaving a sobbing Alfida collapsed on the floor.[2] Eivor later encountered Eluric at a tavern in the south-west of town and encouraged him to return home and forgive his parents.[2]
Battle of Cippanhamm and later life
In 878, Eluric, along with many of Eivor's allies, met at Cippanhamm to fight King Alfred's forces. Having taken to heart Eivor's advice to reconcile with his parents, Eluric conversed with Vili Hemmingson and Hunwald at the rendezvous and boasted that his mother was worth ten Vikings when Vili .[3]

During the battle, both Ljufvina Bjarmarsdottir and Hjorr Halfsson heard that one of the "Saxon boys" was wounded. Eivor left in search of them and found Eluric despairing over his inability to protect a fatally-injured Hunwald. Eluric followed Eivor as she carried Hunwald to a nearby farmhouse and laid him down, and was witness to Hunwald's dying musings on meeting his late father Hundbeorht before succumbing to his wounds. After the battle, Eluric attended the joint funerals for Soma, Hunwald, and Hjorr.[3] Following these events, Eluric would join Yanli, Rowan, and Tove as new British Hidden One initiates around 889 and trained under Hytham in Ravensthorpe.[4]
