Al-Ula Valley[1] is a region named for the market city of al-Ula in what is now Medina Province, Saudi Arabia.[2] Many different authorities controlled it throughout the first millennium BCE, namely, the Dadānite and Lihyanite Kingdoms around 500 BCE and later the Nabataean Kingdom, which established their regional authority at Hegra.[3] The region was considered a mandatory stop along the Incense Road's land routes due the availability of water and food produced at the local oasis.[1][4]
