The Beast of the Hills

The Beast of the Hills was a legendary bear that lived in 9th century Sciropescire, Mercia. A tremendous bear, this legendary animal was a sight, due to its colossal size, when compared to the general populations of bears in England.

History

In the 870s, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan travelled around the region of Sciropescire. Along her journey, Eivor came across a hunting log which gave an account of a bear said to be a monumental creature that could pulverize men's heads and was of the size of a Roman bath. Eivor looked around the surrounding area west of the Uriconium Ruins and soon found an underground passage under a hill. Along the passage, Eivor came across many loose arrows and winter chanterelle bushes until she spotted a blood trail. Following it, Eivor slid under an opening in a wall and found the Beast of the Hills in its cellar lair drinking from a large barrel of mead it had torn loose from a rack of barrels inside. After falling over drunk, the creature noticed Eivor and began attacking the warrior, occasionally consuming snakes within the lair to replenish its health. After a long battle, Eivor killed the beast and collected its head as her reward.[1]

Behind the scenes

The underground lair the bear resides in has no supply of any herbivory replenishments for Eivor's health, thus increasing the difficulty of the fight with the legendary beast.
