A War in the Shadows is a recurring Helix Rift Event in Assassin's Creed: Rebellion that originally lasted from 13–17 March 2019. It comprises of five missions set in 15th century Florence in which the Italian Assassin Ezio Auditore and the Spanish Assassins investigated the disappearances of citizens who had resisted the seemingly-resurgent Italian Rite of the Templar Order.

Successful mission synchronization gives players Data Nodes which unlock various reward tiers based on the total Nodes collected, with the top tier granting players the ability to play Perina di Bastian in future missions; a short blade, set of light armor, and accessories scaled to one's Brotherhood level; and Codex. Players can earn extra Nodes if they use one or more preset Sync Bonus Heroes.

Official Synopsis[edit | edit source]

Florence, 15th century
In spring of 1493, Ezio Auditore learned that the Templars had returned to the city of Florence. Rumors abounded of their influence over the local merchants and officials, and that whoever attempted to stand against them disappeared.

Ezio could not let this stand and decided to react. He asked his fellow Italian Assassins to help investigate, and also sent a request for support to the other Brotherhood guilds of Europe.

Reacting quickly, the Italian Brotherhood first sent two of their members to the city: Perina di Bastian, a daredevil burglar from Venice, and Corvo Antonelli, a brash mercenary from Rome.

The Spanish Brotherhood, eager to repay the Master Assassin for the help he had provided them before, also answered his call and decided to rush to their aid.

A small team of Assassins entered the city of Florence, with the firm intention to discover what was happening to its citizens, remove the Templars from the city, and destroy whoever was pulling their strings.
