Zervos was a Greek harbormaster of Sais, Egypt during the reign of Ptolemy XIII.

Biography[edit | edit source]

During the mid-1st century BCE, Sefetu, a Ptolemaic officer from Fort Nikiou, served as the governor of the town. During his tenure, Egyptian merchants were heavily taxed for their goods and faced punishment if they refused or failed to pay in time. As such, Zervos took to help his fellow residents store their goods in secret.[1]

Eventually in 48 BCE, his operations were discovered, forcing him to hide in a storehouse on the docks west of the town. The Egyptian merchants helped to keep his whereabouts secret, spreading rumors of his departure or death to any soldiers who were searching for Zervos. They told these rumors to the Medjay Bayek of Siwa as well, when he came looking for Zervos, on the suggestion of Harkhuf, but Bayek was unconvinced.[1]

At night, Bayek followed the merchants to the storehouse, leading him to meet Zervos. Zervos enlisted his help to either retrieve or destroy his records, which he had hidden in a felucca outside his warehouse to the north. Bayek managed to retrieve the felucca and parked it in the docks outside the storehouse. In gratitude, Zervos gave Bayek information on Sefetu's whereabouts and warned about it being heavily guarded with ballistae.[1]
