The Residential District

The Residential District of the Round City of Baghdad was located south of the Caliphal Palace. Not only was it home to famous individuals such as the poet Arib Al-Ma'muniyya and the writer Al-Jahiz, it also housed the Harem of the Abbasid court.[1]

In the 860s, the Hidden One Basim ibn Ishaq travelled to the district to investigate Arib[2] and the Harem where the concubine Qabiha resided, both of whom were suspected to be the Ra's Al-Af'a of the Order of the Ancients.[3]
