Philocrates of Kanopos was the son of Themistocles of Kanopos, and the father of Nikias and Icarus. He owned the Zephyros Stables and the related estate in Kanopos during the 1st century BCE.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Philocrates was a second-generation resident of Kanopos. Owning an estate and stables in the town, he used it to train horses for the Prasina Green, the chariot racing team he patronized.[1]
In 48 BCE, Philocrates was introduced by Nikias to the Medjay of Siwa, Bayek, who was an old friend of Claridas, a member of the Veneta Blue. Due to Bayek's experience as a former racer, Philocrates invited him to take Nikias out on a ride around town. While they were gone, a group of bandits attacked the stables, stealing one of Philocrates' most prized horses, Saganaki, in the process.[2]
When Bayek and Nikias returned, Philocrates informed them of what had happened, prompting Nikias to lead Bayek and a group of Prasina Green members to retrieve the horse. They eventually found the bandits' hideout, and Bayek rode Saganaki back to the stables.
