Mithridates II of the Bosporus was an Iranian-born Anatolian monarch of the Bosporan Kingdom, and a one-time ally of Gaius Julius Caesar.[1] During the Alexandrine war, Mithridates and his army arrived in Egypt, clashing with Ptolemy XIII's troops at Pelusium. They outnumbered the enemy and secured the region between Pelusium and Alexandria.[2] Ptolemy sent his troops to prevent passage over the river, though Mithridates warned Caesar in time, and the two groups confronted the armies of Ptolemy in the Delta. In the Battle of the Nile, the Romans gained the upper hand, sending the Egyptians fleeing.[3]
