Miguel Ramón Carlo de Lugo (born 1494) was a member of an early incarnation of the West Indies Brotherhood of Assassins based in Florida.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Born near San Juan Bay in Puerto Rico, Miguel's mother died during childbirth and his father abandoned him. He was taken in by Alonso Carlo, a freed slave and translator for the Spanish Empire's colonial army. By the age of nine, Miguel was fluent in Taíno, Arawak, and Spanish.[1]
In 1510, the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León accused Alonso of plotting his assassination and ordered his execution. Before he could be captured, Alonso took Miguel and escaped, eventually reaching Florida. There, they found safety with the Assassins and Miguel joined their ranks.[1]
In 1521, de León journeyed to Florida to search for the Fountain of Youth. Knowing that de Léon would learn that the Fountain was a Piece of Eden, the Assassins sent Miguel to implore de León to turn back. When de León denied the request, the Assassins shot him with a poisoned arrow and Miguel fled the scene, leaving de León to die.[1] Miguel later met Anna Espinosa, with whom he had two children, José Cores and Paco Mulo Arriba.[2]
