The Gates of Baghdad were the gates connected by walls which protected the city of Baghdad and the inner Madinat As-Salam. Most of them were built during the reign of the Abbasid Caliphate.[1]
While the Round City originally had[2] four gates leading into the outer districts and directed towards Kufa to the southwest, Basra to the southeast, Khorasan to the northeast, and Sham (Syria) to the northwest,[3] they were eventually destroyed[2] and replaced by a number of new entryways.[1]
