Dennu.

Dennu (died 34 BCE) was an Egyptian merchant who lived during the early 1st century BCE.

Biography[edit | edit source]

While on the road to Swenett, Yebu Nome in 34 BCE, Dennu was accosted by a group of local soldiers lead by Hagiel, an extortionist who robbed travelers by pretending to be an aggrieved fisherman and accusing passers-by of tearing his nets. Stunned at the false charge, Dennu could only watch as the soldiers seized all of his possessions, including his father's ring, claiming them as recompense for the alleged injury. Dennu sought to resolve his robbery by meeting with Hestorikas, the local steward commanding the soldiers, but his request was ignored and he suffered sunstroke after waiting an entire day in the sun for Hestorikas to appear.[1]

Despite his addled state, Dennu managed to travel to Moon Curser Village, where a local priest cared for him and advised that he remain in his hut to recover. However, Dennu demanded justice and sought to reclaim his heirloom as soon as possible. The Hidden One Bayek of Siwa heard Dennu's protestations while passing through the village, and after listening to his story, agreed to investigate the supposed "fisherman", as Dennu worried that more people would fall victim to Hagiel's scheme. Dennu then left the hut to try his luck with the steward once more, swearing that justice would be served one way or another.[1]

Unbeknownst to Dennu, the steward was the very person responsible for Hagiel's actions. When Dennu arrived at the Papyrus Estate, Hestorikas killed him in retaliation for Bayek meddling in his affairs, before pinning a note to the body taunting Bayek to confront him at the nearby Ship Construction Yard. The Hidden One did so, and avenged the merchant by defeating the steward in combat. Bayek then recovered Dennu's ring, which the steward had pocketed for himself, before musing that he would keep it on the chance that he could return it to Dennu in the afterlife.[1]

Some time later, Bayek met Dennu in the House of the Threshed Grain within the realm of Aaru. Initially confused by meeting a familiar man, the merchant soon remembered his past life. Bayek informed him that his death had been avenged and reunited the man with his father's ring. Although amused by Bayek's ability to visit the afterlife while still alive, Dennu thanked him nonetheless and noted that his efforts to return the ring meant much to him.[2]
